NFT Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs
An NFT is a non-fungible token, which is typically an image or other digital asset, that is associated with a unique piece of computer code written on a blockchain to verify ownership and authenticity. It is somewhat similar to a deed to a house, except ownership is in a unique digital asset instead of a unique house, and the ownership information is recorded on a blockchain instead of a ledger at the county recorder. Because each NFT is unique, and thus potentially rare and collectible, some have become more valuable than others. This is different from a fungible asset, like a dollar bill, where each has exactly the same value and is interchangeable for any other.
A blockchain is a series of digital information stored and updated simultaneously across a large number of computers, making it essentially impossible to alter or tamper with this data. In this case, the “blocks” are individual units of data identifying the owner of an NFT, and the history of any purchases, sales, or trades of that NFT (day, time, amount, etc.). The “chain” results from linking these blocks together into a single database of information.
Norwegian Cruise Line has publicly released two different NFT collections to allow individuals to engage with our brand in new and exciting ways. The first collection was a collaboration between Norwegian Cruise Line and Manuel Di Rita (Peeta) celebrating the launch of our Prima class and its first vessel, Norwegian Prima. The second collection celebrates the Christening and Inaugural voyages of Norwegian Prima.
Norwegian Cruise Line unveiled six NFTs as part of its first collection. One NFT was available for auction only and provided the winner with a free balcony stateroom for themselves and a guest on Norwegian Prima’s inaugural sailing from Miami in November of 2022. The additional five NFTs were available at a fixed price and are featured onboard Norwegian Prima’s three-story Penrose Atrium. The artwork for each of the NFTs was commissioned by NCL and created by Manuel di Rita. Manuel Di Rita, commonly known as “Peeta”, is an Italian graffiti and sculpture artist currently living in Venice.
Norwegian Cruise Line’s second NFT collection will offer a commemorative NFT to guests on Norwegian Prima’s Christening sailing from Reykjavik, Iceland on August 25, 2022 and the Inaugural sailing from Amsterdam, Netherlands on September 3, 2022. The artwork for each NFT was created by Norwegian Cruise Line’s Creative Team.
Guests sailing on Norwegian Prima’s Christening Sailing and Inaugural Sailing from Reykjavik, Iceland and Amsterdam, Netherlands, respectively, will receive an email from Norwegian Cruise Line requesting that they RSVP to claim their token. To RSVP for their token, guests are required to submit their name and email address in the link provided to them via email. Once the sailing has ended, guests will receive an additional email from VIP@Support.Kred with a link to view their NFT.
