Explore Dalt Vila, a historical section of town that UNESCO deemed a World Heritage site for being an exceptional example of a fortified acropolis. The Phoenicians originally settled this part of the island, but it was often invaded so the defensive walls were strengthened repeatedly until the Renaissance.

To enter this atmospheric district, you will pass through El Portal de Ses Taules, a stone gateway that an imperial coat of arms crowns. As you stroll the winding cobbled streets, you can expect to come across plazas lined with restaurants and shops and the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Snows, a magnificent Catalan Gothic building that stands near the highest point in Dalt Vila. The views from there will be especially spectacular.

The Contemporary Art Museum is another landmark, as it is housed in 17th-century building that took years to renovate because of the archaeological remains below it had to be excavated. You can see them through the glass floor.
