Amboseli Park By Air

OVERVIEW

Fly off to Amboseli National Park, which lies in the shadow of Mt. Kilimanjaro, and then venture into the bush on a game drive, looking for lions and other iconic African animals. After departing from the pier, you will drive to the nearby Moi Airport and board a private charter aircraft. You will then fly northwest over semi-desert savannah to Amboseli National Park, where you will board a safari minivan with a roof hatch that allows for ventilation, viewing and photography. Over the next couple of hours, you will drive through the park’s vast open plains, where free-ranging elephants are often observed. The melting snow from nearby Kilimanjaro flows underground into the park, feeding the springs and marshes and attracting a multitude of animals, including the Big Five: lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and Cape buffalo. You may also spot zebras, hippos and antelope roaming about the 150-square-mile park, which borders Tanzania. If it’s dry, you may notice that the bare ground is deep, almost rusty red, as it’s of volcanic origin. Following the morning game drive, you will enjoy a buffet lunch and some time to rest. Then, it’s off on another game drive to a different section of Amboseli National Park. At the conclusion of your afternoon game drive, you will retrace your route back to the ship.
