    Coral Gardens & Pali Sea Cliff Zodiac Snorkel

    OVERVIEW

    Cruise in an open-air Zodiac along the spectacularly scenic Pali sea cliffs and snorkel the lengthy coral reef that lies just offshore. You will zip through the water on the Reef Explorer, a 60-foot custom super-raft with shaded and open-deck seating. Before long, you will arrive at the precipitous heavily vegetated sea cliffs, which will serve as a magnificent backdrop for the snorkeling adventure. Plenty of other natural wonders lie beneath the water’s surface. While there is no telling what you will observe along the reef, it will surely be extraordinary. Red-lip parrotfish, slender needlefish, orange-band surgeonfish and bluefin jacks all inhabit these crystal-clear waters. You may even see white-spotted eagle rays and green sea turtles, the most commonly seen sea turtle in Hawaii. The coral formations are just as eye-catching. Some are named for their odd shapes such as the mushroom, cauliflower and antler corals.

    Authentic Alaska Fishing

    You’ll spend the day in a state-of-the art fishing vessel with a seasoned guide who will bring you to the fishing grounds Alaskans have been returning to generation after generation. No matter your skill level, you will fish like a local, working the sandy flats or sea floor pinnacles with your rod in hand, drifting with the current and jigging in waters as deep as 300 feet. Species availability changes throughout the season, and daily factors such as tides and wind affect your fishing opportunities. This multi-species Alaskan fishing expedition allows you to head out with the confidence that you will catch fish. Down there in the twilight of the deep, rockfish, cod, flounder, sharks, skates and mighty halibut find their way to your bait. No matter what the conditions or the catch, this trip offers the best chance of exposing you to the strange and alien species found on the Southeast Alaskan deep-sea floor.

    Note: Participants must be at least 5 years of age, weigh a minimum of 30 lbs. and a maximum of 300 lbs. Children must be accompanied by a parent and be prepared for a long fishing day. Deck or rubber soled shoes must be worn on board. Guests are advised to dress warmly in layers and bring a hat and gloves, all-weather gear will be provided. This tour operates in wet weather and includes approximately 3 hours of actual fishing time. Tour operator provides rain gear, rubber boots, comfortable float jackets, wool socks, hat and gloves, as well as all fishing equipment and tackle. Actual fishing Approx. is 4 1/2 hours. Alaska State Law requires a fishing license that can be purchased in cash at the outfitting room for $25. You’ll need a credit card in order to have your catch processed and sent home (U.S. only). Fish Processing Plant is closed from September 15th to May 15th. Effective 07/24/2023 Halibut Fishing will be closed on Mondays in Southeast Alaska. If a guest catches a halibut during their fishing excursion it will have to be released. We will still be fishing for other species on our Monday excursions but will not be targeting Halibut.

    Knudson Cove Salmon Sportfishing

    Ketchikan (Ward Cove), Alasca

    Try your luck fishing in crystal-clear waters teeming with salmon, while enjoying a stunning backdrop of glacier-carved bays and fjords and the natural beauty of Tongass National Forest. Ketchikan is known as the Salmon Capital of the World, so there is no better place to catch these highly prized sportfish. Once you reach the prime fishing grounds, a deckhand will supply you with fishing gear and you will troll for salmon using a downrigger. Anglers will rotate from rod to rod, so that everyone has the same amount of time on each one. Five species of salmon live in these waters, including king salmon, which are also called Chinook salmon. Pink salmon are the most abundant species and they are vigorous fighters. If you want to keep what you catch, it can be processed and shipped anywhere in the United States.

    Note: Participants must be at least 6 years old. Fishing lasts approximately 3 ½ to 4 hours. Fishing license cost- $15.00 plus $15.00 (US cash/credit card) for King Salmon tag (May - July). Licenses need to be purchased prior to starting the tour. Children that are 15 years old and younger are not required to purchase sportfishing licenses and king salmon stamps. King salmon are catch and release per state requirements through June 14. To purchase your license prior to the tour, please visit the website at https://store.adfg.alaska.gov/ and select “Fishing, Hunting, Trapping Licenses & Stamps.” In the “Short-Term Products for 2023” please select a 1-day sport fishing license at $15, as well as a 1-day king salmon stamp at $15 (only purchase during the months of May-mid July). If you decide to process your catch and ship it home, you will need a credit card. Fish can only be shipped within the United States. Between April 1st and June 14th the tour will operate as catch and release, due to The Alaska Department of Fish and Game regulations.

    Black Bear & Wildlife Exploration - Min Age 12

    Join this bear-viewing opportunity, which is accessible by road. You'll begin with a narrated eight-mile coastal drive to the forested area of Herring Cove located within the Alaska Rain Forest Sanctuary. Meet your guide and set out on a walking expedition to locate some of the black bears that call this area home. You will pass through tall stands of hemlock, spruce and cedar as you explore the sanctuary. An elevated boardwalk trail leads you to private viewing platforms overlooking Herring Creek, where bears often come to fish for salmon in the stream. The nearby Whitman Hatchery ensures that the river is teeming with salmon every summer. Typically, large numbers of black bears gather here to feed on these huge runs of salmon that are returning to spawn in the stream. Bald eagles perch in the trees, waiting patiently for scraps left by the bears. Mink and marten often frequent the area, and seals often hang out near the mouth of the stream feeding on the bountiful fish runs. You will have ample time to observe the wildlife activity. Walk through the historic Herring Bay Lumber Company sawmill established by legendary pioneer Ben Fleenor. Transportation to and from the sanctuary is by motorcoach.

You will follow the guide’s boat past the islands off Refuge Cove and on to Totem Bight State Historical Park, home to a replica village like the ones the indigenous Tlingit and Haidas inhabited in the 19th century. The guide will entertain you with stories about these earlier times, logging, and the history of businesses such as the Ketchikan Pulp Mill. The Tongass Narrows is teeming with wildlife, and you may spot orcas and humpback whales breaching the water’s surface. Bald eagles are commonly seen soaring above, along the shore and feasting on fish that they have just plucked from the sea.

This tour is conducted using 4-pax Zodiac boats with the guide in a lead boat. Participants should weigh between 30lbs and 350lbs with a minimum age of 6 years old. This tour is not a good choice for guests with back or neck injuries or expectant mothers. The Zodiac is not covered or shaded. Guests will be outfitted with a life jacket, and rain jacket, rain pants as needed. Parties smaller than 4 will be paired up. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed. Guests who go ashore do so with the understanding that they will be mixing with members of the general public.
