Used as air-raid shelters during WWII and as bomb shelters during the Cold War and also frequented by smugglers, today only a small portion of the tunnels are open to the public for tours.

      One of the city's most famous landmarks, the Potemkin Stairs, forms an optical illusion - appearing as if the stairs stretch on endlessly. But in reality, there are only 192 steps that lead to the harbour.
