Explore the city of Cartagena, once considered the gem of the Spanish Main and today still surprises visitors with its colonial architecture and impressive fortifications. Pass through the famous “Republican” architecture of Manga residential area, home to some of the most ornate mansions and homes of the city. Continue your journey to one of the most important works of Spanish Military engineering in South America - Fort of San Felipe de Barajas for a photo stop. Wander the narrow cobblestone streets and squares inside the walled city. Beginning at Santo Domingo´s Bastion, you’ll pass by charming colonial architecture to the oldest church in the city - Church of Santo Domingo. Continue walking to Plaza de Bolivar, a picturesque tree lined square adorned with statues saluting the city’s illustrious past and features a statue of its namesake. Across the street, see the Inquisition Palace.


Then, make your way to the Inquisition Palace, the Inquisition was established in Cartagena in the year 1610 to punish any crimes against the Catholic faith. During your visit, you’ll see samples of jails and torture chambers.


Continue to the colonial commercial district of Custom Plaza and down the street to the Cathedral and the Governor’s house, headquarters of the Spanish government. Stroll to Plaza San Pedro to see the shrine and church honoring Saint Peter Claver, the patron saint of slaves. Soak up the local flavor as you continue your guided walk amidst towering colonial, republican and Spanish-style buildings and surrender to the majesty of this historic city. Do some shopping at Las Bovedas Artisan Center, built as dungeons, today local artisans display their work here. On the way back to your ship, enjoy a sightseeing tour through the modern part of Cartagena.
