There are different ways of knowing a city, but undoubtedly, a walking tour gets you closer to the locals, and to seeing things from a different perspective. Punta Arenas is a city of hard-working immigrants who have struggled against the harsh nature of this southerly, end-of-the-world land.

Transfer to Bulnes Avenue, to begin your walk from one of the symbols of Patagonia and Punta Arenas, El Ovejero, the Shepherd monument, in honor of the typical working men of the local estancias or sheep farms. Walk by the famous local cemetery towards Maggiorino Borgatello Museum, founded by the Salesian missionaries. It offers a comprehensive overview of the regional flora and fauna, the habitat of the indigenous people and regional history.

Head to Bories street, the main street in downtown, and reach "Plaza de Armas", the main square, where you’ll find the imposing monument to Ferdinand Magellan, looking towards the strait. Main public buildings such as the town hall and the Union Club frame Plaza de Armas, together with the houses and palaces of the local founders.

You’ll go up to Cerro de la Cruz, a lookout point with a spectacular panoramic view of the city and the strait; a perfect place to take one of the best pictures of your trip. Enjoy a snack of local favorites at a pioneer house, refurbished and transformed into a cafeteria.

Need to Know:
