OVERVIEW

Explore the wonders within the world’s largest natural oasis, a unique landscape with 2.5 million date palms and traces of settlements that date to the Neolithic period. The Al-Ahsa Oasis is so unusual and archaeologically important that UNESCO declared it a World Heritage site. It contains the remains of mosques, fortresses and canals that lend great insight into early human life. While traveling through the Qarah Hills within the sprawling oasis, you will visit an ancient cave, in which you will instantly notice and welcome its substantially cooler temperature. The town of Hofuf is also in Al-Ahsa and its landmarks add another layer of understanding to local Saudi history. You will see the Princes’ School, where the royals and elite Saudis were educated, and the 16th-century Ibrahim Castle, a fortress that combines Islamic and military architectures. Free time at the Quasariah Souq allows you to become even more immersed in the culture.

Need to Know:

Note: Participants must be at least 4 years of age. Conservative attire, covering knees and shoulders, is required for all venues. Comfortable shoes recommended. This tour involves an extensive amount of walking for approximately 1.86 miles-2.5 miles (about 3 to 4 kilometers), at times over uneven surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and steps at the sites visited; lifts are available. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilize a wheelchair. Guests must be at least 10 years old to participate in this tour; minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over 18 years old. Infrastructure in Dammam may be basic, and local conditions may be challenging; coaches, guides, hotels, restaurants, equipment, and services are the best available in the area, but may not be up to the standards of those found on other ports. The tour sequence may vary. Bring Saudi Arabian Riyals or credit cards for purchases.
