Stellenbosch And Wine Tasting

DETAILS

  • 41/2
    hrs Estimate Duration

Experience the history, architecture and flavors of Stellenbosch during an orientation tour of the valley, its museum and wine estates.

Depart the pier for the scenic drive to Stellenbosch. This broad, fertile valley on the Eerste River was named after its founder, Governor Simon van der Stel, who discovered it in 1680. Today, Stellenbosch is a major university town characterized by Cape Dutch-style architecture and streets lined with oak trees, some of which have been declared national monuments.

Upon arrival, you will take an orientation drive through Stellenbosch, followed by an hour at your leisure to explore the town independently. Along the way, you can visit the Stellenbosch Museum, which is comprised of four different houses depicting different eras: the 1709 Schreuder House, 1788 Bletterman House, early-19th-century Grosvenor House and 1850 O.M. Bergh House, (optional and at your own expense). Alternatively, you may wish to browse through the variety of curio shops.

Next, your drive will continue with a stop at one of the wine estates in the Stellenbosch area, where you will be invited to participate in wine-tasting and learn about the fascinating skills employed in the cellar.

Following your visit, you will re-board your coach for the return drive to Cape Town Harbor along the N2 National Road.
