Cape Town Ostrich & Durbanville Winery

Explore the wildlife and wine country of South Africa's West Coast during this tour of the West Coast Ostrich Show Ranch, and a visit to the Durbanville Wine Region.

Depart the pier for the drive along the West Coast towards Bloubergstrand, where a brief photo stop will be made to capture the breathtaking views of Table Mountain and the city across Table Bay. You will then continue on to the West Coast Ostrich Show Ranch.

Upon arrival, you will take a guided, 45-minute walking tour to learn about the habits, breeding and characteristics of this unique bird. You will also see the display room, leather factory, West Coast white ostriches, dwarf ostriches, black-neck ostriches, emus, rheas, peacocks, ostrich chicks, incubator, cactus garden, and a spectacular view of Table Mountain and the surrounding countryside. The highlight of your visit will be an opportunity to take a photograph alongside the ostriches, with Table Mountain serving as the backdrop.

Next, you will proceed for a visit to one of the wine estates located on the slopes of the Tygerberg in the Durbanville Wine Region. The cool ocean breezes and misty nights make Durbanville one of the coolest wine producing regions in the Western Cape. The name "Tygerberg" is derived from Tijger, the Dutch word for leopard. The Cape's early settlers thought that the striated effect of the hills covered with indigenous shrubs resembled the skin of the leopard.

Join a guided tour of the cellar, after which you will be invited to participate in a formal winetasting of varietals which are produced and bottled on the estate.
