A privately chartered vessel takes you to one of Chile’s largest penguin colonies. Located on Magdalena Island, the site was declared a natural monument in 1982. Board the boat for an approximately 1 ½ hour journey along the Strait of Magellan.

You’ll have about one hour on the island to observe the Magellan penguins in their natural habitat. A large colony of penguins nest and breed here, each year between October and March. They bury their eggs in sandy burrows and under shrubs; at this time of year most of the chicks will have hatched. They’re naturally curious and untamed - if approached too quickly they will scamper off. Following ample time to observe the birds, you’ll walk back to the ferry for your journey back to Punta Arenas. A boxed lunch is included.

Need to Know:

Note: Walking is on mostly flat, marked pathways. The ride may be rough depending upon sea and weather conditions. We recommend you bring a windbreaker and scarf and wear sturdy walking shoes. Please do not touch the penguins, as their bites can inflict serious wounds.
