Puppy kisses guaranteed! You will also pan for gold just like those prospectors, except gold will be guaranteed in this case and an assayer will be nearby to weigh and evaluate your find. You will see the route the prospectors took in Klondike Gold Rush of 1898 by boarding a private car on the White Pass Railway and riding to summit of the pass, where you will celebrate the occasion with a toast. Experience Skagway with Alaska’s original city historical tour for an informative fun filled 90 minutes to “all points of interest”. Skagway character Martin Itjen came here looking for gold in 1898 and became the town’s most celebrated storyteller. He gave Alaska’s first motorized sightseeing tour on his “Skagway Streetcar” for U.S. President Warren G. Harding in 1923 and delighted visitors for decades. Today, Martin’s tour lives on! Aboard your yellow 1927 sightseeing bus, your costumed “conductor” passes on a century of history, behind-the-scenes tales, and stories. Explore the waterfront and National Park Historic District, enjoy the panoramic views from the scenic overlook and have your camera ready for the recounting of the Soapy Smith gunfight at the Gold Rush Cemetery. Highlighting the history of this gold rush town and the pioneer families that built it, you’ll motor through the residential neighborhoods of Skagway, famous for its flower gardens. A courtesy stop is made in town for those wanting to shop or explore independently before the tour continues back to the ship. Don’t miss seeing “all points of interest” aboard the Skagway Streetcar.

While driving through the city’s National Historic District, you will pass block after block of wooden buildings that were constructed as hotels, stores and saloons in the late 19th century. You will then follow the famed Trail of ’98, which is the route countless stampeders took in search of gold. OVERVIEW

Your journey begins a short walk from the pier where you’ll board a high-speed catamaran for a 45-minute cruise along North America's longest and deepest fjord to Haines. Enjoy spectacular views and informative commentary as your guide points out marine wildlife. Watch for whales along the way, as you glide past breathtaking glaciers and cascading waterfalls. Upon arrival in Haines, enjoy a tour of the town followed by a water-safety briefing and a thorough introduction to kayaking. Once you’re outfitted in the necessary gear, we’ll put in. No previous experience is necessary and expert guides will make everyone quickly at ease in these stable kayaks. The stable and silent kayaks make excellent viewing platforms. And Chilkoot Lake - the setting for this leg of your adventure - is home to all five species of Pacific salmon, numerous bald eagles, waterfowl and one of the highest concentrations of brown bears in southeast Alaska. In addition to the excitement of kayaking in the midst of towering mountains, hanging glaciers and spectacular scenery, you may be treated to outstanding bear viewing during the riverside drive and while paddling on the lake, as multiple spawning streams enter the lake and offer frequent bear and eagle sightings. You’ll have 1.75 hours to explore by kayak. With fresh and saltwater destinations available, the location is chosen to provide the best kayaking and wildlife-viewing conditions and many visitors to Alaska feel there's no better way to fully experience the beauty of Alaska. A picnic-style lunch is served before you return to the fast ferry for the ride back to your ship.

    OVERVIEW

Look for iconic Alaskan wildlife in the Chilkoot Valley, an unspoiled landscape with an abundance of bears and bald eagles. A high-speed catamaran ferry will bring you across the Chilkoot Inlet to the town of Haines for a narrated drive through Fort William Seward. The now-decommissioned fort was built in 1902 as a display of power during a border dispute with Canada. On the way there, you can look out for seals, sea lions, porpoises and perhaps even whales. The Chilkoot River can attract bears and bald eagles , and you might observe them feeding voraciously along the river. Binoculars will be available if you want to look for mountain goats grazing in the distance alpine meadows. You will also stop at the river’s mouth, which is known for having the world’s largest concentration of bald eagles. Watching these majestic birds up close is quite the experience.

    HIGHLIGHTS

    • Look for marine life on the ferry ride to Chilkoot Valley.
    • Enjoy a narrated drive through Fort William Seward, 19th-century landmark in Haines.
